My name is Edward Nganga, and I have struggled with weight loss for many years. I primarily focused on exercise, but unfortunately, I was unable to achieve significant weight loss. Over time, my blood pressure became a concern, and I was referred to a cardiologist by a doctor. The cardiologist confirmed that I was hypertensive and strongly advised me to consult with a nutritionist to assist with weight management.

For years, I attempted to lose weight through exercise, which included activities such as running 9 kilometers, skipping rope, and doing sit-ups. I followed this regimen three times a week, but due to my demanding work schedule, it became unsustainable. While I enjoy exercising, finding the time was challenging, and stress made it even harder.

Since meeting Kepha, my consultant nutritionist, and embarking on his lifestyle modification program, my lifestyle has undergone a significant transformation. I have developed a strong awareness of my dietary choices and become more disciplined than ever before. Nutrition is a concept that many people do not take seriously, but as the saying goes, prevention is better than cure.

Achievements:

  • I feel lighter, and my blood pressure has improved considerably.
  • I look younger and feel energetic
  • My confidence has grown, and I would like to encourage my fellow men to reconsider certain cultural habits, such as the overconsumption of “nyama choma” (grilled meat).

As a child, I witnessed my parents suffer from hypertension, diabetes, gout, and stroke. They passed away in their late 50s due to these conditions. My doctor informed me that if I didn’t address my weight, I was at high risk for organ damage due to uncontrolled blood pressure. This warning motivated me to change my lifestyle.

The nutrition plan provided by Kepha was another significant source of motivation. It was flexible, simple, and practical, allowing me to start losing weight within the first month. This was a remarkable achievement, as my previous attempts at weight loss had failed. I began the program in May 2011, and by December of that year, I had reduced my weight from 92 kg to 82 kg. Although losing weight is not easy, it is achievable with professional guidance. I especially urge my fellow men to take their health seriously, as excessive weight gain can also impact libido, a sensitive issue that many avoid discussing. When I carry a 10 kg bag of flour, I feel a great sense of accomplishment, having lost an equivalent amount of weight.

It is important to remember that ignorance is no defense. It is never too late to prioritize your health. Too often, we sacrifice our health to earn money, only to spend that money later in life trying to regain our health. I feel particularly concerned for our youth, who are exposed to harmful beverages and fast food. Reflecting on my parents’ experience and seeing elderly individuals in hospitals saddens me, as old age is not only associated with illness but also financial burdens. By listening to your body and making informed lifestyle choices, you can embark on a journey toward overall health and wellness.
