“I have lost 26kgs, regained my self-esteem and my Blood Pressure is back to normal without medication.” Mrs. Ritah Nyagah.
My name is Rita Nyagah. I am married to Willis Kanji, and together we have two children: our son, Wesley Kanji, and our daughter, Leslie Kanji. After the birth of my daughter, Leslie, I felt blessed and content, as we had been fortunate to have both a son and a daughter, a dream for many young couples. Eager to increase my breast milk supply, I consumed a variety of foods during that period.
Upon returning to work, I faced the reality that none of my clothes would not fit anymore, forcing me to continue wearing my maternity outfits. In fact some people to assume I was still pregnant. I also experienced swelling in my legs, morning fatigue, and during my regular visits to the hospital, my blood sugar and blood pressure were consistently elevated. The nurses often expressed concern.
After a few months of enduring leg swelling, coupled with a burning sensation, I consulted a Doctor, who recommended that I visit a consultant nutritionist. Though there was always a long queue to see the nutritionist, I patiently waited and secured an appointment with Kepha Nyanumba, a consultant Nutritionist after three weeks.
Kepha’s nutrition plan was unexpectedly straightforward. Initially, I worried that controlling my diet would affect my breast milk supply, and I left the clinic with many questions. The first two weeks were challenging, particularly when I experienced strong cravings for unhealthy snacks in the late mornings. However, patience, determination, and self-discipline became my guiding principles. I remained focused on my goal, and after two weeks, I had lost two kilograms and noticed an increase in my milk production. This progress encouraged me greatly, and I was able to express more milk while at work. I was pleased to exclusively breastfeed my daughter for six months without the need for water or other foods.
I continued to visit Kepha Nyanumba for review sessions, and the results were remarkable. Gradually, my clothes began to fit better, and after six months, I had to change my wardrobe as my previous clothes were now too large. Kepha would organized nutrition support groups, where I had the opportunity to meet and share experiences with others. These support groups provided motivation, and I learned much about nutrition and healthy lifestyle practices.
After a year, I had lost a total of 26 kilograms, reducing my weight from 96kg to 70kg. I felt happier, regained my self-esteem, and my health improved significantly. My blood sugar and blood pressure normalized without medication, and I no longer needed frequent visits to the doctor.
I would like to advice breastfeeding mothers to seek professional advice to increase breast milk production. Through guidance, I lost weight and my breast milk increased and I am deeply grateful to Kepha Nyanumba for his invaluable support and encouragement. This program has made me a proud mother, and I am committed to maintaining and passing on this healthy lifestyle to my family.
